On the applicability of the thin dielectric layer model for wake field calculation
Abstract
The thin dielectric layer model(TDLM) was developed by A.
Novokhatski, M. Timm and T. Weiland in a couple of papers
presented at former ICAP Conferences.
Recently two articles referring to the TDLM have appeared.
In the first one the TDLM is used to interpret a
measurement carried out at the Brookhaven ATF. We show by
calculations and by simulations that the TDLM cannot be
applied to the geometry used in this experiment.
The second article investigates theoretically a geometry
very similar to the geometry of the TDLM, but in a square
beam pipe. The amplitude of the wake found in this paper
differs by orders of magnitude from the predictions of the
TDLM. We try to solve this discrepancy by computer
simulations using MAFIA
