Phi3P: A 3D Parallel Statics Solver using Field-based Hybrid Finite
Abstract
In this paper, we describe the 3D parallel statics solver,
Phi3P, using a hybrid finite element formulation that is
field-based. Whitney linear face and edge elements are used
to interpolate B and H respectively to guarantee field
continuity across boundaries. The new formulation strongly
imposes Maxwell^Òs equations while minimizes the residual of
the constitutive equation, leading to a large, sparse, and
indefinite system of equations. We present an efficient
iterative algorithm to solve such a system on parallel
computers and report results from solving magnet design
problems in accelerators.
