Muon storage Ring design for 6 imensional phase space cooling for the Neutrino factory and the Muon collider

Abstract

We designed a model of a storage ring for 6 dimensional phase space cooling of intense muon beam for the neutrino factory and the muon collider. The cooling ring is made of non-solenoid magnets, RF cavities, and energy absorbers. The ionization cooling in the transverse phase space through absorbers contributes to the 6 dimensional phase space cooling, where longitudinal phase space experience some heating by the dE/dx straggling. The emittance exchange from the longitudinal phase space(delta E) to transverse phase space(delta x) makes it possible to cool the longitudinal phase space by using wedge shaped absorbers. A Lithium lens insert in a straight section is discussed.
